Weakening the Americans with Disabilties Act

Our neighbours to the south have a long list of failures when it comes to equitable treatment of their citizens. One bright spot has been the Americans with Disabilities Act, which has gone a long way towards fully integrating disabled folk into society. Recent court decisions have eaten away..........

...........at the intent of the ADA, and a bill to restore the original meaning of the act is making its way through Congress. Canadians may find it interesting to listen to a short (4 minutes) National Public Radio piece here.

Although Canadians with disabilities are protected in some sense by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, there is a wide gap between the concept of equity and the reality of disability in this country.
