Disabilities no barrier for these athletes

A team of elite wheelchair athletes will be participating in the five-kilometre race at the Bluenose Marathon in Halifax this Sunday. The team is called Global Wheelchair Athletics, and they travel around the world participating in various wheelchair racing events and competitions. Independent Living Nova Scotia, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities, is sponsoring the team's Blue Nose Marathon debut. |
For the record:
Of athletes running on sneakers, the world record 5k is 12:37.35 held by Ethiopian Keninisa Bekele. Among pushrim wheelchairs, the record is 9:53.05 held by Swiss Marcel Hug.
