Subject: A message from Minister Qualtrough regarding the Canada Disability Benefit Legislation

Folks:

On behalf of Minister Qualtrough, I am pleased to share some exciting news with you. The Government’s legislative agenda has just been released and we are thrilled that Bill C – 22, the Canada Disability Benefit Act (CDB) will be called for second reading on Tuesday, September 20/22.  Welcome to the House of Commons of Canada (ourcommons.ca) The House of Commons will resume its regular fall session at 10 AM EST, and Minister Qualtrough will be called upon for second reading of the CDB in the first few minutes of the daily routine shortly after 10 AM.  As the only Government Bill scheduled for debate for the balance of the day, MPs from all sides of the House will have the entire day to contribute to the debate.

This is another milestone day in our collective journey towards a fully inclusive Canada. We know the legislative journey is not over, but Minister Qualtrough wanted me to reach out to you all at this time and thank you for all your efforts in supporting getting us to this point.  If any of you who are local to the Ottawa area, or will be in town and wish to visit the House of Commons on Tuesday to witness second reading in person please let me know directly and Minister Qualtrough's Hill staff will assist in coordinating those logistics.  You can always watch the proceedings live on CPAC as well.

Please feel free to share this news far and wide on your social media networks.

Thanks again for all your efforts and support. We will be in touch in the not-too-distant future regarding next steps.

One in One Thousand - The forgotten legacy of James McGregor Stewart

James McGregor Stewart, 1889-1955, son of a Pictou lawyer, grandson of a Cape Breton minister, was a principal of Stewart, McKelvey, the downtown Halifax law firm. In his time he was Nova Scotia’s premier corporate lawyer, and he wrote the rules for many of our most successful and long-lived companies. He was president of the Canadian Bar between the wars. He is one of fewer than 500 Canadians to be awarded the Commander of the British Empire for services to the Empire in WW II. His obituary was in the New York Times. Read on
