Steve Estey

We're sorry to learn of the passing of Steve Estey, a bright light in our community.  His obituary summarizes his many accomplishments and contains an invitation to a live streaming of his funeral on the 19th.

Although he was an international presence, he will be remembered by me for his pivotal role in the re-drafting of Nova Scotia's Bill 59, the Accessibility Act.

He presided over a contentious crew of supporters and his calm and gracious manner brought agreement.  I believe it was the first case of advocates playing a central role in legislation.

People attended in person, by Zoom and by telephone.  Dal Law provided the space, and Steve provided a vision of what could be done.  Nova Scotia has a major share of high-achieving people with disabilities and Steve is a bright star in that firmament.

We are in his debt.
